Preheat the kettle by adding boiling water. This helps to maintain the temperature during the brew process.

Rinse the paper filter by pouring the hot water from the Hario kettle. This helps prevent the brewing process from transferring any paper tastes to your coffee, and it also warms your coffee cup prior to brewing. Grind your coffee and get ready to brew. Make sure you empty the rinse water from your coffee cup before you brew.

Add your ground coffee to the Hario dripper. For the best quality coffee, ALWAYS grind just before brewing. Using the right amount of coffee and water is essential as well. For eight ounces of coffee, we use 259 grams of water and 15.9 grams of ground coffee. If your cup is too strong, grind courser. If it's too weak, grind finer.

Pour a small amount of hot water over the coffee. This is called preinfusion, and it prepares the coffee for brewing. Fresh coffee will rise up, almost like a cake would rise in the oven. Wait approximately thirty seconds after prewetting the coffee bed.

Begin to slowly pour the hot water over the ground coffee. We recommend that you start in the center, and slowly pour in circles from the inside to the outside and back in again. Don't let the water get too high in the dripper. Many times, it's best to keep the water just above the bed of coffee. You may have to pause several times while pouring.

After your pour is complete, wait until all of the water has dripped through the V60. When it's finished, you can remove the dripper from your cup, toss the filter with spent coffee grounds, and enjoy.
