Organic Keemun Mao Feng has arrived...

Photo of Keemun Mao Feng

Keemun is a classic style of China black tea that was developed in the county of Qimen ('Keemun' is the old English spelling of Qimen) located in Anhui province in south eastern China. In 1875, a young entrepreneur traveled to Fujian where he learned the secrets of making black tea. With his new knowledge he convinced his father, a green tea producer, to switch to producing black tea using small leaf tea varietals. Traditionally black tea had been made with large or medium leaf tea bushes. The small leaf varietal created a lighter tea with more intricate flavors. When this style of tea was developed, the European demand for higher quality black teas was increasing rapidly and Keemun became a way for China tea producers to compete with the teas that were coming from Assam and Sri Lanka. This tea was most often exported to Europe.
